‘I highly recommend Dr. Washington, her skills in mentoring and empowering people to have the confidence to mentor successfully is brilliant.  Dr. Washington has created and facilitated a number of my mentoring events working with employers in sharing her vast amount of experience in mentoring, teaching the mentors in effective listening skills, asking powerful questions and thinking about how you get the best out of your mentoring relationship. The feedback I received from the mentors was positive and highlighted the real value that training can play.’

Book

The Mentor’s Companion explores what mentoring is and what essential skills are needed for it to be effective.  Based on research, a new model of mentoring is introduced – distal mentoring – which embodies best practice and can mitigate negative outcomes.  Illustrated with relevant scenarios and mentoring tips, this book is a development tool for active practitioners as well as an introduction for beginners.  Case studies with supporting theory delivers a practical yet digestible medium.

Following an initial exploration of the nature of mentoring, key techniques such as deep listening skills, empathy and powerful questioning are examined.  Along with developing the relationship through empathy, emotional intelligence and rapport building, this book provides a comprehensive text in its introduction of mentoring as well as its recommendation of best practice.

The Mentors Companion is available in all good bookshops and available online via  our publisher at www.uwp.co.uk
